Radical Rights Groups
How do current radical right groups such as sovereign citizens threaten the legitimate federal authority in the United States? In the United States, a radical right group is a term used to assign common depiction to each extreme side of the political spectrum (Johnson 46). Radical right groups comprise of a number of fanatic movements that support nationalistic leanings. These groups can be classified into supremacist movements, militia movements, sovereign citizensââ¬â¢ movements, and various single-issue movements (Johnson 46).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Radical Rights Groups specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Among these groups, sovereign citizens are the most active. The groups, together with other right groups in the United States threaten the legitimate federal authority in a number of ways. As such, these groups champion for secession. They want to fight for the removal of their states from the Unite d States. These groups argue that state separation is a constitutional right that the federal government should respect. Based on these motives, it is apparent that these extremist groups are after undermining the legitimate federal authority of the US. Similarly, sovereign citizens have always insisted that the US federal government is illegitimate. Therefore, they have always tried to reinstate an idealized and an inconspicuous government that has never been in existence in the US. To date, these groups wage confrontations against the federal government and similar related authorities by use of paper terrorism, pestering, threat tactics, and infrequently resorting to aggression (Johnson 47). In addition, sovereign citizens assert that the county is the legitimate seat of command in the US. Their ideology is supported by the fact that county administration is nearer to the citizens than the federal government. Why does the FBI classify this group as domestic terrorists? According t o the FBI, domestic terrorism group is a faction that satisfies the below characteristics (Johnson 47). The first attribute is that a group must be planning dangerous acts against fellow humans contrary to the national or state law. Second attribute is that a group must seem to be intentionally threatening civilians, undermining the policy of a government through threats, and have an effect on the behavior of a government by mass obliteration, murdering or abducting. Lastly, for a group to be considered a domestic terrorist it acts must occur inside the territorial jurisdiction of the United States and be carried out by its citizens. Sovereign citizens are categorized as internal terrorists because they exhibit the above characteristics. For instance, ever since the fall of the Posse the group has witnessed a momentous increase in numbers of its acts.Advertising Looking for essay on political sciences? Let's see if we can help you! During the year 1993, radical escapees Linda Lyon Block and George Sibley, who were the members of the group, assassinated a police officer in Alabama (Hamm 217). In mid 1990s, a gang of radicals linked with the extremists battered Karen Mathews at her residence. Similarly, in the year 1998 two members belonging to the group fired their guns at two firefighters in Ohio. They attacked the firefighters because the two servicepersonsââ¬â¢ vehicle had blocked their way. At irregular intervals, the group members have engaged themselves in high-profile confrontation with the authorities. In spite of aggressive activity, the favored weapon of this group is referred to as paper terrorism. Paper terrorism utilizes the use of fake legal credentials and filings. Similarly, paper terrorism employs the misuse of lawful credentials and filings. These acts are undertaken to threaten, annoy, and pressurize public officials, police officers, and the public (Johnson 46). Works Cited Hamm, Mark S.. slave culture essays
slave culture essays Slavery in America thrived and continued to grow because there was a scarcity of labor. Cultivation of crops on plantations could be supervised while slaves used simple routines to harvest them, the low price at which slaves could be bought, and earning profits as a bonus for not having to pay hired work. But in the beginning half of the 19th century a strong push for slavery's final straw was coming. The people of the South tended to be more genteel, and seemed not quite adjusted to hard work, but more to giving orders. The idea of telling people how to do their work just seemed to fit all too well into this scenario. Slaves lived under virtually unsuitable conditions. Douglass' account of a slave's life told of the trying times on the plantation. An allowance was given to the workers. A monthly allowance consisted of mostly of pork and corn meal but also some money. Yearly slaves were given clothes, a couple shirts, and two pairs of pants-one pair of pants for winter and one pair for the other times of the year. They were not given beds to sleep on but rather a blanket for the floor. On top of lack of basic necessities slaves were forced to work around the clock. If they were not at their total output for the minute their owners they would be forced by the whip and "encouraged" to work harder, as an owner might feel. They were always subject to profanity from their masters and treated more like horses. Just like horses they were bred to be strong, in the mindset of outputSlave owners would also sexually take advantage of women slaves. Slaves turned to freedom for more than this reason though. Some were obsessed with being free and living a life where they were not told how to live-and who wouldn't be? Then there were some that were treated so cruelly, that it forced them to run just to stay alive. Since coming to America as slaves even back as far back as when the first colonies began, slaves want ...

Eulogy Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Eulogy - Article Example ime working in a hospital to be closest among the sick, those who are compromised in health, and those who seek to recover from afflictions of the body, mind, and even the spirit. At that, I wanted to be remembered as a nurturing friend, a devoted and committed healthcare practitioner. To my professional colleagues, who I worked diligently in the hospital, I hope you would continue our fervent desire to be instrumental contributors to the improvement of health and well-being of those we serve. I cherish every moment spent with an ailing child or a recovering elder, as well as sharing the challenges during emergency situations, and the fun out of a box of doughnuts or a steaming hot cup of coffee. Every smile, gesture of appreciation, and firm acknowledgement of gratitude for having been of service to these people are the ones that I would remember most. At that, I want you to remember me as a committed health worker, a firm believer in holistic caring and that whatever form of comfort and caring that could be given should be accorded with love and faith that a Supreme Being guides us all. To my loved ones, I want you all to know that I am the most fortunate person who ever have lived in this world. You all have been my reasons for living. Your inspiration, holistic support, and unconditional love became my driving force to share that same enthusiasm and love for life to others. The warmth and caring that have been accorded me through my existence was just incomparable. I am sure that you must all feel the loss and the pain of my demise; as I am sure that if any of you would have been in my place now, I would likewise feel the same. But let me assure you that I would all be seeing you again to that special place that is reserved for us in eternal life. As grandfather used to say, death is merely a transition. It is stepping beyond the physical realm to spiritual dimension. It is looking forward to an endless bliss with all the angels and saints. At last I would

Feminism shown throughout the book called Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Essay
Feminism shown throughout the book called Frankenstein by Mary Shelley - Essay Example Some have considered it quite ironic for a person like Mary Shelley to write a novel in which all female characters have marginal representation compared to the male characters. Shelley was born to a very notable Victorian feminist named Mary Wollstonecraft. Yet, she has portrayed women as creatures of little wisdom or independence in her most distinguished novel. For example, when the text says that ââ¬Å"He came like a protecting spirit to the poor girl, who committed herself to his care;â⬠(Shelley 26), it is suggested by Viktor that Caroline, his mother, had no capacity to look after herself and looked up to his father to be taken care of. She clearly has no means to support herself financially and so, marries Viktorââ¬â¢s father for survival. This possessibility of women, depicted in the novel, could be due to the fact that Shelley wrote in a time when women were expected to abide by some rules which were set for them by the conservative society in which they lived. Her novel does not speak of women with spirited enthusiasm, rather they are described in a very ordinary way which makes the readers perceive them as ordinary and powerless. For example, at one point, Viktor speaking of his mother says that in his childhood, ââ¬Å"she presented Elizabeth to me as her promised giftâ⬠(Shelley 30). Here, it is clear how powerless women then were because Elizabeth, while being unaware herself, is promised by another woman to his child. Elizabeth has no say in this important matter of her life, rather she is treated like an object and handed over to a child. There is a huge gender gap which is clearly noticeable in Frankenstein. This is even considered a sexist book by many critics. Negative portrayal of women in the novel is traced back by some to the time in which Shelley lived when women were brought up in a such a way that they could not think of

Learning What Was Never Taugh Essay Example for Free
Learning What Was Never Taugh Essay In this short story, author Sabine Reichel tells her tale of growing up in a post-WWII Germany education system. Her main focus is the lack of history being taught at that time. The specific history she is referring to being that of Adolf Hitler, the holocaust, and the Third Reich. She looks at her own experience with her teachers and then talks at length about an interview she conducted later in her life with an older man who was a teacher in post-war Germany. This teacher, Casar Hagener, was a relatively young man at the time of the war and was very much against what was going on. Reichel conducted this interview when Hagener was seventy-six. He speaks of being forced into the Nazi party, being drafted, and his contempt for his contemporaries. The majority of her experience with teachers involves them dancing and side-stepping around the entire block of time that Germany was at war. The piece concludes stating that the German students today know more about Hitler and the Third Reich than any previous generation. Reichel could give more fact than observation if this piece were to truly hit home. She merely gives her own biased observation of what was going on with her teachers rather than any facts or case studies. Her inductive makes the story a bit weak in my opinion. I didnââ¬â¢t really find much to sink my teeth into in this story as Reichel only gives her point of view. There are no facts backing up her claim that German students today know more about Hitler and the Third Reich than any other generation. The language used in the story is quite descriptive. There were a few images that jumped off the page at me. One in particular was, ââ¬Å"The dark clouds were gone, the past had been left behind, and he turned jocular and voluble again. â⬠Another device used in the story is the simile. For instance when Reichel says the German youth must be, ââ¬Å"resilient as leather, fast as a weasel, and hard as Krupp steel. The other example being, ââ¬Å"A house without a fence is disorderly, like a coat with a missing button. â⬠I read this story immediately after writing my response to Hotel Rwanda and it made me think about how much history repeats itself. In thinking about the genocide in Rwanda and the lack of action from the international community I think about the lack of action right now in Darfur. Watching Hotel Rwanda, I could only think that the international community would learn from what happened in Europe during WWII and learn from that.

Effects of Cocaine :: Papers
Effects of Cocaine Physical effects of cocaine use include constricted peripheral blood vessels, dilated pupils, and increased temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. The duration of cocaineââ¬â¢s immediate euphoric effects, which include hyper-stimulation and mental clarity, is dependent on the route of administration. The faster the cocaine is absorbed, the more intense the high and the shorter the duration of action. The ââ¬Ëhighââ¬â¢ from snorting may last 15 to 30 minutes, whilst that from smoking may last 5 to 10 minutes. Increased use can reduce the period of stimulation. This euphoria is followed by depression and craving for more of the drug. Some users of cocaine report feelings of restlessness, irritability, and anxiety. In rare instances, sudden death can occur on the first use of cocaine or unexpectedly thereafter. There is no way to determine who is prone to sudden death. Short-term physiological effects include raised hear rate, hyperactivity and restlessness. Blood pressure of the user is also increased and the pupils dilate. There is a great risk associated with cocaine use whether the drug is snorted, injected or smoked. Prolonged cocaine snorting can result in ulceration of the mucous membranes of the nose and can damage the nasal septum enough to cause it to collapse. The injecting drug user is at risk for transmitting or acquiring HIV infection/AIDS if needles or other injection equipment are shared. Hepatitis is another danger from the use of needles to inject cocaine. Cocaine smokers suffer from acute respiratory problems including coughing, shortness of breath, and severe chest pains with lung trauma and bleeding. In addition, it appears that compulsive cocaine use may develop even more rapidly if the substance is smoked rather than snorted. Cocaine is a strong central nervous system stimulant that interferes with the reabsorption process of dopamine, a chemical messenger associated with pleasure and movement. Dopamine is released as part of the brainââ¬â¢s reward system and is involved in the high that characterizes cocaine consumption. An appreciable tolerance to the
